Your WordPress site is a vital part of your business. Keeping your site secure should be a top priority. When launched, you’re exposing your site to everyday threats and attacks, which could turn into a nightmare due to unforeseen circumstances (like brute force and DDoS threats).
Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a way to keep data safe, maintain your customer’s trust, and improve your SEO rankings all at the same time? One component to a more secure site is securing it with SSL (Secure Sockets Layer).
White Paper: The importance of SSL security
SSL security protects the data between your web server and site visitor’s browser so that data remains secure. SSL security is especially important in protecting sensitive data, like credit card info and passwords.
This white paper will help you make the decision to use SSL for your site (including how to obtain a free SSL certificate with Let’s Encrypt). In this updated white paper you’ll learn:
- What SSL is
- Why you should consider it for your site
- How SSL helps with SEO and site speed
- SSL key use cases
- How to obtain a free SSL certificate with WP Engine
Download the white paper now to learn how to start using SSL to your advantage.
I see a lot of good information on the WPE site regarding SSL but the one thing I can’t find is a good step by step process of how to implement this on a WordPress site hosted by WPE.
A couple of useful piece of info would be:
1) Can I set up everything on the staging site and then push to live?
2) What changes on the site needed to be updated like links and the database of internal links that will go from http to https? What is the best and easiest way to update the links.
3) What changes need to be made in Google Console and Analytics?
4) Are any changes in DNS required?
5) What about redirects at WPE?
6) What order should everything be done?
I’m sure there are many more questions and steps that need to be explained.
Thanks for being the best web host ever.
Hi Charlie,
Please see this article which should contain the answers to some of your questions depending on which SSL certificate you have: https://wpengine.com/support/add-ssl-site/
I also encourage you to contact our support team, as they’d be happy to assist you with any remaining questions.
While this is certainly a good reference, I was hoping for something specific to WPE that is specific to WordPress. Maybe something more like https://woorkup.com/how-to-migrate-from-http-to-https-complete-tutorial/ but in WPE speak. I will try to use both of these documents to attempt this on my own. Over the weekend or at night. 🙂
