This is the kind of market research that WordPress sorely needs to consider. While this report indicates that WordPress is a CMS leader, the Gartner Magic Quadrant for WCM shows WordPress as a challenger with Adobe, Sitecore, and Acquia (Drupal) as leaders in the enterprise space. So, there’s still room for improvement as WordPress competes as an enterprise CMS platform. Our focus group survey on WordPress Usage by the WordPress.org Marketing team revealed that the lack of a Roadmap is a primary barrier. There’s now a two-year commitment on the Gutenberg editor, while API projects for developers are backburner, with no indication for milestones going forward. As a WordPress Community Contributor I hope that we can commit to better planning to keep the needle moving forward in all directions:

      David,

Agreed – it’s imperative for all of us in the WordPress community to continue the work of bringing the benefits of WordPress to the enterprise. The good news as reflected in this study is that we’re all doing better than we think and the inherent strengths of WordPress – agility, integration, customization, better publishing and others are not only being recognized but increasingly valued by the enterprise. Thanks for the work you’re doing as a contributor!!
