WordPress 3.1 Upgrade Coming Soon

WP Engine 2.28.2011

The WP Engine team is in the last stages of testing WordPress 3.1. When testing is completed, we will officially support WordPress 3.1 . The latest version of WordPress is currently available on all WP Engine sites, but not supported as we have not completed a full assessment of WordPress 3.1.

For our testing process, we are testing the 3.1 upgrade with our curated plugins. The list of our curated plugins is available here . We are not able to test for every possible plugin that is used, as there are over 13,000 plugins to choose from. We strongly recommend caution before doing the 3.1 upgrade. Take any steps to do a back up of your site, including saving any customizations made to your site.

We cannot guarantee support or functionality for any plugin that is not curated by us, so please make sure that the plugin you are using is currently supported by WordPress 3.1 . You can view information on any plugin at the Official WordPress Plugins Repository

We will eventually require all WP Engine users to upgrade to 3.1, but we will not force that until we get feedback from the WP Engine Community on how 3.1 works on their site. We will also announce this in advance so you can prepare for it accordingly.

If you have issues with your site during or after the upgrade process, please do not hesitate to contact support:

If a user upgrades and encounters problems with unsupported plugins or other features, will WP Engine be able to help roll back the upgrade?

Brad I second your question…will this be possible?

Extending that question, is it possible to test the 3.1 upgrade in a WPEngine “staging area”? Or does the staging feature only let us vary the user-defined parts of our site rather than the WordPress backbone?

No problems whatsoever, clear sailing with limited high-profile plugins.

Although I would like to get rid of the admin dashboard that shows up at the top of the blog (only to admins), that is totes annoying.

I’ve just updated and everything is fine. I use a lot of plugins that are not curated and advanced theme.
