It’s inevitable, that WP version 3.3 is on track to soon hit the stores, just in time for the holidays. Here at WP Engine, we’ve been hard at work, testing out the beta releases to make sure we’re primed and ready when it is officially released.
What does that mean? It means testing core functionality, benchmarks and compatibility with our curated plugins. As when WP 3.1 and 3.2 were released, we did not upgrade your blog immediately. Same approach will apply here.
What’s the dealio? Just deploy It would be easy to pull the trigger and upgrade your site on the first day of a major release, but we’re a little more cautious. The biggest concern is that we can not guarantee that all your plugins will play nice with the new release. We do our best to test our curated plugins, but can not test every plugin in use across all our customer’s sites.
What should I do? Upgrade your staging site to WP 3.3 (when it’s available or now as beta). That will allow you to see your site in action without breaking your production environment. Score!
When will WP Engine deploy 3.3? When we feel comfortable about it. For WP 3.2, we didn’t start mandatory deployment until version 3.2.1 was released.
What if I’m not ready? You have the opportunity to opt out of the WP 3.3 upgrade. Please contact our support line with your request.
Update: After thorough testing, the WordPress 3.3.x branch is now available for new customers. Current customers on 3.2.x or lower are advised to upgrade as soon as they’re ready.
