Through its initial investigation, 9seeds discovered that the Good Men Project site had a large number of active plugins and very little static content, while also driving large amounts of traffic to content from numerous authors and contributors. The 9seeds team also found that loading the Good Men Project site required more than 500 queries due to its widget-based method for displaying articles.
9seeds was able to optimize the site and moved it from its previous hosting provider to WP Engine’s managed WordPress hosting platform. The move, Good Men Media CEO Lisa Hickey said, dramatically reduced downtime and boosted the overall performance of the site. The Good Men Project site now averages more than 3.2 million unique visitors per month, and the site no longer crashes at the first sign of a traffic spike.
