The wearables market just heated up even further, with Google announcing Android Wear, a new project to extend Android to wearables.
In the announcement post on their blog, Google said:
That’s why we’re so excited about wearables—they understand the context of the world around you, and you can interact with them simply and efficiently, with just a glance or a spoken word.
Google plans to begin with watches, which will:
- give you real-time information, notifications, and suggestions
- respond to voice commands
- monitor your health and fitness
- access and control other devices
Developers can check out the Android Wear Developer Preview, which allows you to create wearable experiences for your existing apps to see how they appear on round and square devices.
Google’s announcement of Android Wear is just another example of why those of us in the content business should start thinking about producing content for wearables.
