Why WordPress Should Be The CMS Of Choice (Thoughts From WordCamp Europe)

Fabio Torlini 6.30.2015

As the sun sets over Seville, we say goodbye to another great WordCamp.

WordCamp Europe brought together the growing European WordPress communities for engaging sessions, dinners, and networking opportunities. I think it’s fair to say, the event was a smashing success. Check out this great photo of the WP Engine team at WordCamp Europe:

We had a busy couple of days discussing WordPress and sharing insights with people who share the same enthusiasm for the WordPress platform as we do. However, while WordPress is widely popular – it hosts nearly a quarter of all websites – there is still a number of businesses who remain set on using their current CMS system, whether it’s customised or otherwise.

If there was one takeaway from WordCamp Europe, it’s that WordPress is the perfect platform for businesses looking to create a splash online. Why?

Ease of use
WordPress was created with the user in mind, and one main focus is to make it as easy to use as possible.

WordPress empowers businesses to get up and running quickly, and makes updating and adding new content a breeze through a simple backend system the most users—even those who are non-technical–can manage.

Variety of plugins
We always want our websites to do new things, and the customer-driven society we’re operating in also fuels the need for regular change.

You can simply add plugins to deliver new functionality to do pretty much anything you need a website to do. Plugins add simple functions such as shopping carts and data capture, and you can use plugins to enhance the user experience. For example, tools such as GeoIP, which uses an IP address to identify a site visitor’s location, provide users personalised content based on geographic location.

Regular updates
The web is changing almost daily, and by running your website on WordPress, you can ensure your site is as up to date as possible.

Work on the WordPress platform never stops. Regular updates are released to ensure the system is constantly evolving and improving to meet these changing requirements.

A vibrant community
As illustrated at WordCamp Europe, the WordPress community is huge and continues to grow. WordPress is built on the power of community harnessing the wisdom of many. Have a question? You can rely on community forums to provide support and help. Want to ask an expert? Managed WordPress hosting providers like WP Engine can provide immediate support and advice. At WP Engine, we pride ourselves on our team of WordPress experts who are on hand 24/7/365.

The list of “why WordPress?” could go on, so if you’d like to speak to one of our team about your website and why you should choose WordPress managed and hosted by WP Engine, visit us at http://wpengine.com/. Alternatively, we’ll be at WordCamp Boston on July 18 and July 19, so stop by and say hello!

Very nice and concise rundown! Coincidentally this looks a lot like my sales pitch to clients who aren’t quite sold on WordPress 🙂 The huge developer community and variety of plugins just can’t be beat. The ease of use is debatable, as the learning curve varies depending on how hands-on the client is looking to be and how tech savvy they are, but agencies can compensate for that by providing some straightforward documentation as a value added service.
