WordPress 3.1 Reinhardt was released today and already we are receiving requests for support on this version. We are definitely excited about this release as it will provide many new features for our customers and the WordPress community. In fact, we have already started working with it internally.
Our official policy on WordPress version support is that we mirror the WordPress development policy of supporting the current stable minus one. The WordPress core team supports WordPress 3.1 and the 3.0.x branch.
The notable exception here for WP Engine is that we have not upgraded our supported stable yet. It is still the WordPress 3.0.x branch. We have to test version 3.1 internally against all our curated plugins as well as frequently used plugins across our customer blogs.
We have begun this process and will certainly bring WordPress 3.1 to all customers after we have run our tests. There is no ETA on this but we do expect that to be “soon”. During this process, if we encounter plugin issues, we will do our best to work with the plugin developers to solve the problems we encounter so we can full provide technical support for this version.
With that said, you own your blog. If you wish to upgrade to WordPress 3.1 before we have certified it, then you are free to do so. However, we cannot provide technical support until we have certified it so it will be at your own risk and liability.
As always, we wish to provide you with the best level of support possible and the smoothest WordPress experience on the planet! If you have any questions, shoot us an email.
Best,
Aaron
