Hey Folks, WordPress 3.6 has officially dropped, and we’re going to be updating all customer sites in the next 2 weeks. We’ve been testing it, and have made sure that 3.6 works well with the WP Engine platform.
If you’d like to update to 3.6 manually, you’re more than welcome to do so. Everything should work fine, but please remember to create a restore point of your site before updating so you can restore the site instantly if there are any conflicts.
In the next 2 weeks before we update all customers to 3.6, please test out any custom code you may have in plugins and themes to make sure it works well with the new version of WordPress. From the WP Engine menu in your wp-admin dashboard, you can go to the staging tab to make a copy of your current site and then test WordPress 3.6 there. Just take care to not overwrite any code changes that may be on staging.
If you think that you need an extension, please let us know why in a support ticket. In certain cases we can delay the deployment of 3.6 to allow you sufficient time to run tests on your site(s).
As always, now that the new version of WordPress has been released, all newly-created WordPress installations on WP Engine are created with the new version.
Thanks, as always, for choosing WP Engine!
This isn’t right without notifying update all the sites… What if anyone doesn’t want to update his/her site to 3.6..
Its a good practice, and in truth, an important part of the managed hosting promise. They notification email worried me, though, because I’d already upgraded, and it was worded as if I hadn’t. (I’m also running the 3.7 alpha on one of my installs, and I wouldn’t like that to be downgraded).
But, I trust you guys, keep up the good work.
