WP Engine Developer Program: Love Building Sites Again

Taylor McCaslin 10.13.2015

What keeps you up at night? If you’re a WordPress developer it’s pleasing your clients, not having enough clients, not earning enough revenue, lack of time … the list goes on. You want to grow your business and take on more clients, but there just isn’t enough time. But more clients equal more money. It’s a vicious cycle, and eventually something’s got to give.

Today, WP Engine breaks that cycle and gives you the freedom to focus on the areas that you love. With our new Developer Program, we arm you with the tools you need to build more sites in less time so you can drive more revenue—without adding to your already massive workload. The goal is simple: we want you to be successful and to love site development again.

This program gives you a free WP Engine Personal plan with unlimited Transferable Installs so you can quickly and easily stage your clients’ WordPress sites and push them to their own account using a simple web form. You no longer have to spend days chasing down your clients to get access to their hosting account. We’ve all been there: you wait for SFTP credentials for what seems like forever, only to receive the wrong information, all the while you don’t get paid until the site work is done, but you don’t have the information you need to even get started. It’s maddening, and it’s costing you time and money.

With our Developer Program, that’s no longer a problem. You can use WP Engine Automated Migration to download your client’s original WordPress site to your staging account, eliminating the need to spend cycles hunting down information; all you need is WP Admin access to start a project. It’s that simple.

Want to save even more development time? Use Copy Site to create site templates and clone common builds, jumpstarting your development. Do you develop a lot of sites for a specific type of business? Create one template and reuse it for each site you launch. Spinning up new WordPress installs with your favorite themes, plugins, permalink settings, and custom code loaded and ready to go is a snap—think about how much faster you’ll be able to build client sites.

WP Engine offers a number of other time-saving, revenue-boosting features and tools, too, like one-click staging, automated backups, and Git support—all tools that let you focus on building awesome sites, not on time-wasting server administration. Through the Developer Program, you also have access to a dedicated account rep who can help you if your client wants to jump on a call or you get stuck.

And if your customer doesn’t have a WP Engine hosting account, you can send them an email invitation through our platform. All they have to do is click on a link and sign up, and the site you built for them is ready to go. Plus, we’ll pay you $200 or 100 percent of the client’s first month payment (whichever’s higher) for the referral.

You can build their site on our platform and use WP Engine Transferable Installs to stage their sites. When you’re ready to deploy you’ll be able to keep the site on your install, or transfer it to your client’s WP Engine account, all while still maintaining access to the install. And even if your client wants to host the site somewhere else, you can still use your account and all of the WP Engine development tools you love to stage their site and move it to the host of their choice when you’re done.

All of this combined means you can deploy more sites in less time and for less money, which grows your business, increases your revenue, and makes your customers happy (and makes you happy, too).

Are you ready to start loving site development again? Because this is a pilot program, we only have 200 spots available for qualified applicants.

Update: Thanks for your interest in the WP Engine developer program pilot! Due to maximum reach of spot limitations, we are currently not accepting new applications at this moment, but we will be opening up more spots in the near future. Thank you for your understanding.

I teach a WordPress class at General Assembly (https://generalassemb.ly/education/getting-started-with-wordpress). Would WPEngine be interested in allocating an account to me so that I can use it as hosting environment for the class? I also applied on behalf of my team, so I’m really asking for 2 separate accounts: 1 for teaching and 1 for client development.

      Hi David,

I’d recommend you apply twice and explain your request when contacted by a member of our team to see if you’re a fit for this program. I know we’re big fans of General Assembly, many of us have attended a class or two! We’re excited to hear you want to incorporate WP Engine into your class workflow.

      Hi Mara,

We’re glad to hear you’re excited about the program. The program provides you a free account as long as you refer at least one new account every three months. Tools like Transferable Installs makes this referral process easy and frictionless for you and your client.

This is a great idea. All the WordPress developers I’ve ever told about WP Engine have been really keen to get into a modern workflow – develop, version control, test, push, stage, deploy. And WP Engine makes it so easy.
