WP Engine Introduces Git Administration in the User Portal

Kirby Prickett 2.6.2014

WP Engine has introduced a new tool—Git Administration—that allows website owners and developers to add additional developers’ Git Keys to their own WP Engine installs.

You will see a new link in the left side of your WP Engine User Portal. All you need to do is:

  • add the new developer’s name; and
  • enter the SSH public encryption key.

It’s meant to be easy, but if you have any questions or issues getting started, head on over to our Support Garage.

Git Administration has been developed in response to customer requests for this feature. We want to thank you for bringing this to our attention. As our CEO Heather Brunner has said previously:

Your engagement with us is a constant reminder for us to challenge ourselves to be better each day.

We will continue to develop new products and features—like Git Administration—in pursuit of our goal to deliver the best customer experience for managing WordPress in the marketplace.

Thanks for choosing WP Engine!

This is definitely a huge step in the right direction!

Would it be possible, in a future update, to make it so we can store the SSH key on our main account so that we don’t have to copy/paste it in each time we need to add Git push for a new site?

Yes! globally stored keys! And… pipe dream maybe I can finally rename my key, which unfortunately still has a very old clients name in it.

Globally stored keys would be awesome, as well as a list of keys currently associated with each install!

Thanks for your feedback Jonathan—global keys and listing are obvious needs and we’re considering them.

+1 to renaming my key. Somehow mine got associated with an old client as well, which doesn’t really matter, but is annoying each time I see it 🙂

This is a major improvement. From someone who works from a range of computers/devices as well as having a small team of collaborators this will make my week significantly easier. Even though your response time on support tickets is <1hr, we all love instant gratification 🙂

One feature i’d like to see added to this is the ability to reuse keys (i.e. not having to re-enter them on every install, rather select from a dropdown of existing keys on the account, or have the ability to add a new key).
