Five University of Texas startups showcased their latest innovations Friday as SXSW Interactive tightened its grip on Austin.
The upstarts–ranging in theme from air-powered hyperloop pods to an SMS-based food ordering and payment app–detailed their ideas for a panel of judges featuring WP Engine founder and CTO Jason Cohen, Central Texas Angel Network Chairman Rick Timmins, and Kauffman Fellows President Jeff Harbach.
Here’s the latest and greatest from UT startups:
ConcertCam
First up was ConcertCam, an app that seeks to improve the audio quality of fan-shot concert videos. Working with artists, the app will provide a high-quality audio recording and enable users to upload their videos and sync them with those better sounding clips.
Press
Up next was Press, an on-demand laundry and dry cleaning service that calls itself the “Uber of laundry.” Promising a 24-hour turnaround time, Press offers free delivery and guarantees it’ll to be cheaper than rival services.
Guadaloop
Guadaloop took to the stage to layout its plan for an air-powered hyperloop pod that it says will revolutionize high-speed travel. Running on air bearings – think of how an air hockey table works – the pods can reach speeds of up to 750 miles per hour.
Hylio
Capitalizing on the drone craze, Hylio showcased its autonomous delivery drone: Pegasus. The startup promises the world’s first peer-to-peer aerial delivery platform with fully autonomous drones that can travel five miles and carry five pounds.
Entrée
The food truck and trailer fad is undeniable. And Entrée is an SMS-based service where you can place orders for food trucks via text message and also submit payment to avoid waiting in the often long lines.
