WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO SELECT THE RIGHT DATA CENTER?
- Reduced round-trip time latency for domestic visitors because the closer the server is to the site visitor, the faster the site can load.
- Data management and protection – store and process data domestically
- The faster the site loads, the better your SEO and the opportunity to drive conversion
Certain providers and locations may only be available to select plans at varying prices – please contact our Sales team if you have any questions.
Check which data center is going to work best for you
Before choosing a data center it would be a good idea to test out the various locations to determine general latency for your target users. The following data centers are available.
AWS (Amazon) | ||
Iowa (us-central1) | Virginia (us-east-1)
South Carolina (us-east1) | Oregon (us-west-2)
Oregon (us-west1) | Ohio (us-east-2)
Belgium (europe-west1) | Ireland (eu-west-1)
Taiwan (asia-east1) | Sydney (ap-southeast-2)
Tokyo (asia-northeast1) | London (eu-west-2)
London (europe-west2) | Montreal (ca-central-1)
Frankfurt (europe-west3) | Frankfurt (eu-central-1)
Sydney (ap-southeast1)
Montreal (northamerica-northeast1) |
The easiest way to test for latency is to utilize 3rd party tools designed specifically for these providers. For Google data centers we recommend GCPping and for AWS data centers you can use CloudPing. Keep in mind that these tools will test latency for ALL available data centers from these providers. Make sure that you are focusing only only on the locations listed above.
New Customers
When you choose a plan on the plans page and proceed to the sign up page you will see an area at the bottom of step 2 that looks like this:
Just click on the radio button for the Data Center you wish for your site to be hosted on and we will put it there when we set your site up.
Current Customers
If you’ve already been provisioned in one geographic area and you want to move to another, just contact support and we can do that for you, providing the location is available for your current plan type. When contacting support, please specify which data center you would like to be moved to, as well as when we should move the site.
Additional Information
Any time we do a server change there is always a possibility of down time, it is just the nature of a server move. However, we will do our best to have either no downtime or as little downtime as possible.
Please also be aware that this type of move means that your site is getting a new IP address. If you have already configured your domain to utilize a CNAME record, then no DNS changes would be necessary. If you are pointing directly to an IP address with an A record instead, you will need to update your DNS to reflect that new IP address. For information on finding your IP address, please refer to the following article: Find the IP address of your site
This will also impact your SFTP connection while the site is propagating to the new IP address. The best way to connect to the SFTP during propagation is to use the IP address for the host name, which can be found by following the instructions in the article provided above.
