Choosing Your Datacenter
When you sign up for your plan on WP Engine, you will select your datacenter location for your website:
We recommend choosing the datacenter location closest to where the majority of your site’s traffic is coming from. However, sometimes data privacy laws require sites to be hosted in specific regions. Wherever needed, be sure to adhere to these laws if they apply for your site. The location you choose is then used when creating your first install, and for all installs thereafter. This means all your websites will be built and hosted in the same region.
Locating Site Region After Signup
In some cases, data privacy laws require websites be hosted in certain geographic regions. If you or your team ever need to verify where your sites are hosted geographically, we provide this information to you in the User Portal, on your Overview page for each install:
If you or your team ever need further clarification on the region where your website is hosted, please contact Support. Live Chat is available 24/7/365 in your User Portal. Our Support team can also help if you ever need to change your datacenter region.
Reverse IP Lookups
Because WP Engine utilizes Google Cloud servers, reverse IP lookups will not accurately reflect the geolocation of the datacenter where your website is hosted. All Google Cloud servers will show they are hosted in Mountain View, California regardless of where the datacenter is actually located.
With that in mind, please look to your User Portal for the most accurate datacenter location information. If you or your team have further questions or concerns, please contact us via 24/7 Live Chat.
