We are proud to officially launch the first WordPress Digital Experience Platform (DXP) with products and features that deliver you Creative Agility, Enterprise Performance, Actionable Intelligence, Ecosystem Integration, and Legendary Service.
As part of the new WP Engine WordPress DXP, on March 1, 2018, we are excited to offer new plans designed to provide more flexibility, innovation, and value.
Regardless of plan level, customers on one of the new plans will be able to purchase additional sites as well as add-on features like GeoTarget or Content Performance, previously reserved for higher-level plans. All new plans will now include CDN for faster global content delivery at no charge, along with free SSL certificates for secure data encryption. In addition, every WP Engine site will now include 3 environments for development, staging, and production. All plans also continue to benefit from our world-class 24/7 support.
In this article we will answer common questions about our new plans, as well as questions about new plan functionality with our development, staging, and production environments. To watch a quick video series showing new functionality for these plans, check out our Youtube playlist.
New Plans
Why are you launching new plans?
Our new plans are designed to increase value by providing more environments to better enable developer workflows. The plans offer more flexibility by providing users the ability to choose the number of sites they need, as well as powerful features like Content Performance and GeoTarget.
What happens to my transferable installs?
You will be able to create transferable sites, and transfer environments within them to other accounts as needed. Transferable sites do not count against your sites allowed by your plan. Learn how transferable sites and environments work on new plans.
Can I still use 1-Click Staging?
Yes! 1-Click Staging works the same as it does today. You will notice 1-Click Staging features in User Portal labeled as “Legacy Staging.” This is to help users differentiate between the new staging environments and the 1-Click Staging feature in the WordPress Admin Dashboard. Eventually we will be sunsetting the 1-Click Staging feature, so we do encourage users to copy to their staging environment rather than 1-Click Staging so they can use the dev-stage-prod workflows included in the new plans. Learn how to use the copy to/from tool.
Can I purchase add-ons at any point, or only in the signup process?
Once you are on a Startup, Growth, or Scale plan, you can purchase additional add-ons from the My account page. You can then use or enable your add-ons in your User Portal. Learn how to enable add-ons.
Can I remove add-ons from my plan?
Yes, however for almost all add-ons our Support team will need to assist with the removal. To remove add-ons, please contact Support by clicking “Live Chat” from the top of your User Portal. Our team will assist with the removal of the add-on from your account and from your billing. Learn more about removing add-ons.
Dev-Stage-Prod Sites
What is a site? I thought that was an install?
A site is a unit of three environments: Dev, Stage, and Prod. These environments will enable your team to create intuitive workflows throughout the entire development process. Learn more about development and staging environments.
Am I paying by the site, or the environment?
Your plan supports a certain number of sites, and each site can have 3 environments labeled development, staging, and production (e.g. Growth = 5 sites = 15 environments). Learn more details about the Startup, Growth, and Scale plan offerings.
Can I edit my site name?
Yes, but your environment names need to be unique. Your site name, which is a wrapper for your development, staging, and production environments, is able to be edited at any time and does not need to be unique.
How do I copy between my environments?
In the setup process for every environment, you will have the option to copy it from another environment if you wish. After the setup, you will be able to copy to/from the environments within your site using the Copy to/from tool. Watch the short video below, or visit our support article to learn more about copying environments.
How do transferable installs work now?
Before you could transfer installs, and now you can transfer environments to other accounts. To do this, you can create a Transferable site which does not count against your site limitations of your plan. All environments within your transferable site can then be transferred individually to other accounts as needed. Learn how to transferable sites and environments work on new plans.
Can I delete a site? How about an environment within a site?
Yes to both. To delete only an environment, this can be done from the “Overview” page for that environment. To delete a whole site and all environments within it, this is an option from the “…” menu for each site. Watch the short video below, or visit our support article to learn more about how to add and delete sites and environments.
What happens when I sign up?
A new site with an environment of the name you chose in checkout will be created. You will receive an email with a link to instructions to help enable any add-ons you purchased in the process. Learn how to enable add-ons.
User Portal changes
Why are things labeled as “Legacy Staging” now?
Now that you have the option to create a separate Staging environment, we wanted to make it clear which labels referred to which experience. 1-Click Staging, which you previously used from your WordPress Admin Dashboard, is in a sunset phase and will eventually be phased out. With that in mind, we highly encourage you to copy to the new staging environment in your dev-stage-prod site when copying to staging next time. Learn more about development and staging environments.
What is this “Intelligence” tab?
Intelligence is where you can find key insights about your website’s performance on the web. Page Performance will measure your website’s speed and cacheability, while Content Performance will help measure how successful and engaging your content is among your users. Learn about Intelligence Tools.
What happened to my installs?
If you upgraded or changed to a new plan after March 1, your existing “installs” are now “single-environment sites.” The functionality is all the same, but you’ll find the list of your sites under the Sites tab instead of the Dashboard page. Watch a quick video below to watch the process, or visit our support article to learn how to convert single-environment site to a dev-stage-prod site.
Can I upgrade my plan in the User Portal?
If you are on a Startup, Growth, or Scale plan, you can purchase additional add-ons, but not change your plan tier without assistance. This functionality is coming soon! To upgrade or downgrade your plan tier for now, email [email protected].
